The Full Story

Being and becoming a responsible consumer and producer opts for many changes, especially in personal life and comfortability. Today, the way we purchase, organize and discard items is more blind consumption of a growing supply of manufactured goods. Although the residential waste in Ottawa that ends up in landfills and dumps has decreased, the overall residential waste collected by the City of Ottawa has stayed the same. This is largely due to the consumerism culture in Ottawa, and the lack of recycling and reupholstering that happens. Ottawa has decreased its energy waste by 15% from 2012 and 2020, indicating a good start to the decreasing energy usage in Ottawa. Additionally, citizens of Ottawa have started to recognize their actions and how the consequences of their decisions might have negative impacts on the environment. This has started many awareness groups and climate activists, spreading the word about responsible consumerism. You, too, can make a change!
